I’m sitting in a café typing this out on Word because I appear to have wandered in to the only town in the country without one offering free wifi! How did I manage it?! So that I can change the time later on when I come to upload this to the Internet, it’s currently 16:58 on an extremely cold and wintery afternoon in Worcester.

In my brief five minute wander looking for Costa (which I was assured did have wireless access) as led me to the conclusion that perhaps Worcester, although looking quite nice in parts, is one of those towns done a dreadful tragedy when the town planners of the sixties and seventies had their way. There are some very nice old buildings. There are also some very awful new ones which detract completely from the look of the place, and makes one wish to be out of there as soon as possible.

A sign in the carpark I just pulled into advertised an “exciting fashion shopping experience” in the centre below. Urm… even I, who is the first to admit not the most fashionable bloke in the world, could see that perhaps the sign is part wishful thinking and part blatant lie. But hey, they’ve got to do something I suppose. Though perhaps that something should be to tear down the dross that surrounds us and rebuild from scratch. Each to their own though. I’m sure there are people out there who love this look! Maybe not…

I’ve had a good couple of days; very good gig last night, followed by a movie to day, all in the company of a good friend I’ve not seen in far too long. Unfortunately the day ended on a rather sour note (which I won’t go into here), but I wish this person luck in getting whatever it is sorted.

Costa are trying to be festive by printing little snowflakes on their paper cups. It’s still only October for crying out loud! Oh, I’ve just noticed that the lids are gold too. Very nice…

I’m writing this just after getting back from a great gig by Wheatus at the Marrs Bar in Worcester. Most of the band are back in the States working on their latest album, but Brendan (the lead vocalist) played an acoustic set with requests from the crowd, along with a couple of backing singers to set it all off.

And what a performance it turned out to be.  Now, I have to admit it’s been a while since I listened to their first album (and I’ve not heard their other two yet), but the oldies really jumped out at me, and I realised I knew a lot more of the music and lyrics than I thought. I also remembered how much fun Wheatus’ music is, which came across even without the electrics and the drums.

And to top it all off we got in to see the sound test before hand (after Brendan ushered is in out of the cold) and then got to meet him properly afterwards to say hi. Could have saved ourselves the price of the ticket though as no-one checked us all night. But I’m certainly not going to begrudge anyone my ten pounds to be entertained as I was.

So it was a bloody good night; I met some interesting people and really enjoyed a band I think most of us had forgotten about. I’ll definitely be popping over to iTunes this weekend to download the albums I’ve not yet heard, and I hope to see them again the next time they’re in England.

I’ve only seen the one episode of this great show so far, but it’s pretty damn good. Everyone should watch it!

It’s just been one of those days when I’ve felt the world to be a complete arse, despite the fact that (today at least) it’s done nothing to annoy me. So a miserable day has led into a miserable evening with little to do but stare at this screen in the vague hope that one day something will change.

But I won’t hold my breath.

I’m not sure how long this will last, but I decided to start writing today. Whenever I’ve tried this in the past it’s always ended prematurely due to general boredom. But I really do want to write something. So I’m starting on a novel. I don’t know whether it’s going to be any good, but I sincerely hope to get it finished.

I can’t really share much about it because I don’t know how it’s going pan out, but what I can say is it’s going to be some kind of fantasy story set in some a strange mystical land. Sounds pants already I know, but writing something like this will enable my mind to start working and allow the random tangents it tends to fly off in to shine through. So perhaps the things I’ve tried previously haven’t worked because I’ve not been playing to my strengths. My mind is a big melting pot of randomness which I hope will look good when down on paper. If it doesn’t then it doesn’t really matter. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.
