For the most-part, Bedford isn’t an attractive town. It’s buildings were all constructed at the wrong time (one of its premier hotels looks like a council block) and it has the run-down feel of Montmartre, only without the charm. It does have one exception though. The Embankment area is very nice, with a lovely river walk and plenty of open space to let your dog run free. There’s always someone canoeing down it at any time of the day and it’s the only place in town where you’ll generally get a smile back off passers-by.
So I took my camera down there this morning to take a few shots. It turns out I still need to a bit more practice to get used to my new toy, but I think some of them turned out rather well. You can take a look at them if you wish on Flickr or in the Photo Gallery.
I have made it back to Derby for the week, which is a most pleasant feeling. Now I must shower to get Bedford off me!
I’ve not got many plans for the week, other than getting out at some point with the camera and taking a few photos of Derbyshire. So I’m hoping the weather can stay rain-free for at least some of it. Preferably those days I’m planning on going out, though chances are it won’t!
Obviously being back does have one major drawback. At some point I’m going to have to suffer my mother’s cooking. A prospect I think I’m only going to get through by sneaking to the shop for bags of Space Raiders and Transform-A-Snacks, whilst serupticiously scooping what’s on my plate under the table for the cats to nibble!
Seriously though, I do hope to take a good number of pictures and if some of them are pleasing to the eye you’ll eventually find them on Flickr.
I’ve not really kept to myself the fact that I want to get away from Bedford. Almost everyone who knows me, knows that. Several people at work don’t yet (at least I don’t think they do) and there may be others I’ve not shared it with. But anyway, this isn’t the point I’m here to make.
Over the last two days I’ve have two seperate people ask me if I’d consider moving back to my old position in Major Projects. I’m in two minds what to do. Half of me is thinking that it’s not worth the move, that one day soon I will be packing up and moving on. The other half however is thinking that whilst that may be true, the length of time it’s taken me to get absolutely nowhere proves that it’s not going to be as easy as I’d hoped. So perhaps I should see what the process would be for moving and whether or not Network Operations would let me go.
I truly hate my current role, and I feel I’m much more suited to work on Major Projects, where you get to concentrate on one or two large schemes and really get your teeth into it. How can you get your teeth into dealing with complaints about litter?
What a very pleasant few days I’ve had. Unfortunately I now have to travel back to Bedford, which is not a prospect I’m looking forward to. Not just because I’ll be returning to Bedford, but because the weather outside is not nice, and I’ll be driving back in it in the dark this afternoon.
