I’ve been a little bit lazy over the last few weeks. I’ve not been to the gym at all; hell, I’ve not even switch on the Wii Fit! I don’t really know what the issue has been. Perhaps it has something to do with work screwing me around (until I found out about the promotion, of course) and I really wasn’t feeling up to it. But now that’s in the past and I started it all again properly today.

The morning began extremely early at 4:50 (yes, madness, I know!) with a light run. I’m not very good at running. I can’t go very far without my ankles really killing, though I obviously hope to change that with extended exercise. I’m not sure I’ll be going out every morning, but it was rather nice out today and I do want to keep it up. I then added to it a set of crunches on my ab device before heading on over to work. Lunchtime was the filled with a full-on session at the gym, with cardio and weights abound. Then this afternoon I decided I needed to get back onto the Wii and so did a little light yoga to top it all off.

I really don’t think I shall be doing that every day, but it’s made me feel rather good to get back into it. Now to just keep it up!

On top of my gym activities, I’ve also started on a beginner’s course with a local karate club. This came about as there are a few people in the office who go and as these first four weeks are free, I haven’t really got an excuse to turn it down! Tomorrow will be week three and I’ll soon have to decide whether I wish to continue with it. At the minute I’m not sure. It’s not that I’m not enjoying it, but I don’t want to fork out for the gi and then only go once afterwards. We shall see – there’s still plenty of time left to decide.

Now I just need to remember to eat healthily too and the weight will drop right off!

It had been a while since I last worked out and it was beginning to show. I’d never been skinny, but at least when I was going to the gym before I felt much better about myself and I did see a significant difference in the way I looked and the energy I had. Since quitting Fitness First I’d begun to notice how lethargic I was once more becoming and how even my walk into work was becoming a struggle.

So I’ve done something about it; I’ve joined LA Fitness. I’m a little bit more optimistic this time about what I believe I can achieve, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the gym is just across the road from the office and whether or not I feel up to it, I’m more likely to go after work simply because I’ve got no excuse not to.

Secondly, and importantly, there are quite a few people in the office who go to the same gym and I’m hopeful they will drag me over whenever I do start to feel I can’t be bothered. They’ve even persuaded me to go to spin class with them on Wednesday lunchtimes, which I’m currently a little apprehensive about but hopeful that no matter how much it hurts initially, I shall still want to go back week in, week out.

I’m also taking the advice of the chap who did my induction and changing my diet entirely. Gone are processed foods, breads, regular pasta etc. In their place I’ll have fruits, veg, fish, chicken and brown pasta/rice. I’ll also be eating throughout the day whenever I’m hungry, rather than saving it up for specific meal times. It’s a struggle at the minute as it’s something entirely new to me, but it’ll get easier as the weeks go by, I’m quite sure.

Of course you do need the occasional treat, so I’m writing this as I sit down to a Costa coffee. But I shall take that into account when working out what I should eat for the rest of the day and adjust my meals accordingly.

Since my induction on Tuesday I’ve been three times and I’ll be going again tomorrow. I don’t want to push myself into going too often, but I think four times a week sounds about right. If I can keep this up (and one of those days is spin) I’m sure I’ll easily reach my goal of losing 4% body fat within three months. I’m feeling better already and it’s not been a week yet – it’s incredible how cutting the crap from your diet really does help.

I’ll be sure to keep you good folk up-to-date with how I’m getting along.

Given that I’m no longer going to the gym I need to start doing something else. So tomorrow I’m going to join the running club at work. The course leads down to the local park, around it and back again. All-in-all it’s around two miles, or so I’ve been led to believe. I’m no good at running so I don’t think it’s going to go very well. But I figured I’d give it a go. If I manage to get around I’ll make sure I post all about it. :)

I’ve decided to do more walking. I go to the gym several times a week, but I think I could be doing more. So on the days I can catch a lift in, I’m going to walk back home from work. I know what you’re thinking – why not walk to work as well? The answer is I can and will. On my non-gym days I can walk to work as well as home again. But the gym puts me too far away to walk from there.

This is partially to do with my walking holiday in February and wanting to get some training in beforehand. I also think anything I can do to help me lose weight is a step in the right direction, so I’m hopefully going to carry on with it when I get back too.

I plan on walking home from work tomorrow. I sincerley hope the weather forcast is wrong as it tells me it’s going to rain! But no excuses from me – I shall be walking!

It’s been a bit of an odd day so far. Firstly I actually put some effort in at the gym, which is extremely odd for me! I’ve decided to really try going for it now. There was quite a spell where I used the machines and lost quite a bit of weight. Unfortunately over the last month (or possibly more) I’ve not really been giving it my best shot. Most weeks I’ve not been going to the gym properly at all; just turning up for a shower and a coffee! Not really worth it when you consider I’m paying £40 a month for the privilege!

Anyway, that was then and this is now. I’m making a proper go of it again. At least, I want to. My plan is to be a normal, fit member of society by next summer. I don’t have any particular reason for having chosen the summer, but I think it gives me plenty of time if I really put my mind to it.

After the gym it was off to work. At least I thought it was. I arrived only to be turned away, because once more the building is flooded. The last time this happened it was because the insurance company who occupy the third floor left a faulty dishwasher running all weekend. As far as I’m aware they still haven’t paid up for that one. God help them if they were the cause of this mess too. Actually, knowing my place they’ll just let it slide again, like they do most things.

So now I have another day to fill. I had enough trouble occupying myself over the weekend! I was looking forward to a new credit card arriving so that I could go out and buy myself a shiny new MacBook, but alas it hasn’t turned up. Never mind; there’s always tomorrow.

Time to have a read I think, and to try to avoid this fella for the rest of the day. He does insist on covering me in hair!
